swelled butt taper -

Since the list is slow (likely due to the SRG)perhaps some of you would be interested in a swelled butt taper. I recently took Cattanach's so-called Sir D taper, kept the tips the same dimension, deducted ca. .006" from each of the butt stations, swell began ca. 2.5" in front of the grip (5" grip, 3" reel seat) and the swell increases .150", a significant swell. The rod has an identical SHAPED stress curve as the original with, of course, the stresses increasing in the butt section. It casts a 5 wt with authority and has a strong, "full flex" feel down to the swell. It also casts a 4wt DT with similar authority, but with a "fast tip" feel. With a silk DT4F it really "zings".
