Re Suggestions for a 7- 7.6 ft 5wt. rod - CHRISTOPHER C MCDOWELL
Randall,
I think it was Reed Curry who long ago posted a Phillipson Peerless 7' 5 wt. taper. It's at the Rodmakers website under "Software", then "Frank Stetzer interface" then "Classic Tapers". I hope I got that close to correct, I'm going on memory. Anyway, I've made a few of them and they are most definitely fast with a tip action. Not at all unpleasant to cast, just fast and tip actioned like you are leaning toward. It might be a good choice for someone used to the stiffer action rods. Your friend will have no problem getting smoothly out to 45' with it.

Bob, would you consider the second Dickerson 7613 a tip, mid or full flex type of rod. This guy is coming right off of graphite and is used to stiff tip action types of rods.I'm trying to give him a rod that will help him through the transition. Thanks again, Randall G.

The second Dickerson 7613 in Howell's book is a great powerful rod. Would work well for nymphing with some weight. A nice crisp rod. Mine came out great, although I admit I like the Driggs better for dry fly fishing. (7'2")
For nymphing, I bet a nice 8' Payne taper would work well too.

Anyone have a suggestion for a rod as described above that would be suitable as an all around rod? The person primarily uses nymphs at this point. I was thinking a Granger taper or Dickerson. What do you think. The rod will be cast mostly in the under 45 ft. range. Thanks in advance, Randall Gregory(NW Arkansas)
