Gordon,
This is my first time for providing a taper from a existing rod, and this rod
still has the ferrules & realseat mounted. I just stripped it this week and
I'm now ready to rewrap.
I'll give you each section's total length (ferrules and all) and the cane
depth from the ferrule end (inside the female ferrule). There's a cork plug
in the last ring of the lower grip (no cap) so the cane ends somewhere up
inside the grip, but that shouldn't marrer. The tip section has been rounded
off by Montague to fit the tiptop so I'll give you the 1" measurement also.
I'll then go in 5" marks from tip -- 0", 1", 5" etc. Each measurement will be
the average of all three flat-to-flat's.
I hope this is okay!
Rod Spec's -- Montague trade rod baitcaster rod- no Montague label.
Rod is of about Montague Rapidan level of quality with shouldered rolled-welt
NPB ferrules, but has 3 guides plus tiptop (Rapidan = 2 guides, Mont.
higher-end rods had 3 guides). Has the Montague Scrulock reelseat (looks like
Rapidan page 16 Mont. reproduction cat. with tip section guides mounted like
the Fishkill tip on page 15 but braced tiptip). Cane is brown-tone not
flamed.
Tip section
(tiptop off, male ferrule on) = 35 13/16" or 36 1/4" with tiptop
male ferrule = 2 3/32"
0" --- 0.100"
1" --- 0.115"
5" --- 0.135"
10"-- 0.160"
15"-- 0.193"
20"-- 0.218"
25"-- 0.245"
30"-- 0.272"
33.5"- 0.274"
Butt section (with female ferrule on and grip on) -- 31 1/8"
Fore grip = 2"
Reelseat = 4"
Rear grip = 4 1/2"
Female ferrule (NPB but serrated) = 3 1/16"
0" (ferrule welt) - cane is 1.080" from ferrule welt so I'll give both 5" and
6" and so on.
3.5" = 0.323"
5" = 0.335"
6" = 0.350"
10" = 0.355"
11" = 0.365"
15" = 0.370"
16" = 0.373"
20" = 0.406"
20.5"=0.410" (fore grip prevents taking the 21" mark)
Tight lines all,
Don Burns
