7 5wt Gillum Taper - Nodewrrior
Guys,
Just finishing off a copy of an original I had the pleasure of glomming all over. The orig is completely unfished BTW, and quite a museum piece. The owner is the same for the 7'6" 5/6 wt I posted over a year ago. They guys' grandfather apparently knew Pinky personally. Anyway, I recommended saving the original and I'd make him a copy with the best match in contemporary hardware I could find. It (the orig)has Super Z ferrules, and the Java Beige with B&W tipping of his later rods and uplock Halstead-style with mahogany. I didn't get the guide spacing. I admit to not being overly concerned with that unless it's obviously off the normal Garrison 7' spacings it his book. I guess it might be less than a totally accurate reproduction then huh?
Anyway, it's a very strong butted rod with a lively tip, Throws a laser-tight loop. I'm thinking good for western pocket water. Kind of makes me think of it as a huskier Payne 98.
Here are the numers with varnish removed (as I built it):
0 .064
5 .070
10 .085
15 .098
20 .122
25 .140
30 .158
35 .175
40 .183
45 .198
50 .219
55 .232
60 .247
65 .267
70 .276
75 .300 to end of rod (assumed as it was under the handle)
I'm pretty sure I removed 6thou for varnish to arrive at this taper-can't find the original notes.
Missed you ALL at Grayrock, thanks for the photos posted. Everybody looks great!
