Jim; in the case of George's rod, yes. He made the statement "working as
best I can around my
wraps". George also did a fine of job of measuring the rod, giving us all of
the dimensions he could, not just 5" stations. from the tip. Did everyone
note the length of the grip and reel seat?

Marty's rod was also his own original, not one he was refinishing. His post
did not specify, but I don't think he was kind enough to take the varnish
off for us. :)

Larry,

Are you figures over varnish?

Thanks.

Ok, I've combined several posts here from the original discussion. At the
very bottom is a second taper taken from another original, I believe it was
provided by Marty DeSapio.

Larry

At last, I've taken the Midge measurements, working as best I can around my
wraps.
0" @ tip top = .068
5" = .077
10" = .097
15" = .117
20" = .125
25" = .142
30" = .147
35" = .171
36.25" = .175 ( just short of the wraps, on the tip male ferrule )
37" from tip top to seat of male ferrule.
2.375" = .196 ( from end of female ferrule to end of wrap )
5" = .197
10" = .210
15" = .212
20" = .226
25" = .228
30" = .240
31" = .242 (@ front of grip)
Total length of butt section =38"

Total grip = 7", including reel seat. Over all length 6'-3"

I hope this helps. It will be interesting to compare mine with others made
later. I got mine shortly after he listed it in his catalog.

Read down here, and the measurements for guide spacing are given. These are
taken from my original Midge, built by PHY in 1954.

Here is the guide spacing on the PHY Midge.

Starting at the tip: 5", 6-3/8" 6-13/16", 6-7/16", 7-7/8", 5-1/2", to
end of male ferrule. Male portion that fits inside the female is .875".

>From end of female ferrule: 5", 9-1/2", 16-1/2" to front of grip,
3-15/16" to end of grip, 3-1/8" from end of grip, to end of rod/reel seat.
Total length of the entire female ferrule is 2".

If you have any problems, just let me know., and I sure hope this
helps.

This comes out to be 6'-3", almost to the hair.

Second Rod, I believe this taper was provided by Marty DeSapio

I have a PY Midge built during Paul's tenure (serial #36xx). Here is the
taper over varnish and averaged across three flats.
