Jeff,
Carlos Santos & I have searched for the mythical Payne banty for the last
8-10 years and no luck. Hal Bacon might have some insight on this. The banty
was supposedly a 4'4" two piece. Here are a couple of short, short
tapers........
>From Darryl Hayashida posted to the list in'98 a 5', 4/5wt one piece
.068, .074, .086, .104, .124, .138, .154, .168, .180, .182, .215, .235, .235
Darryl's notes that the grip should go no further than the 50" station or it
will interfere with the "hinge". 'Designed for short casts in bushy streams
will cast out to 50' w/ a double-haul"
>From Ron Hockstra in the Planing Form #18 a 4'4", 2 piece "banty micro-midge
rod" no line wt given
tip .038, .046, .059, .062, .069, .077.....butt .079, .084, .089, .094, .101
The grip has a 2 7/8" reel seat and a 4 1/2" cork grip
>From AJ Thramer to the list in April '98 a 4'4" 2piece 4wt
.068, .084, .096, .114, .128, .144, .158, .176, .192, .220, .220.....11/64
ferrule
Last from Carlos Santos at Greyrock '98 a Payne 95 6', 2 piece 3/4 wt
measured over varnish
tip 0 = .048, 5 = .060, 10 = .075, 15 = .096, 20 = .104, 25 = .118, 30 =
.122, 35 = .126
butt 0 = .130, 5 = .138, 10 = .160, 15 = .173, 20 = .183, 25 = .201, 28 =
.239 grip

Have fun :-))
