Re Classic tapers - Ragnarig

Here are the first of the promised tapers. I wanted to accompany these with
the corresponding stress numbers from the Hexrod program but aol, for some
reason, won't let me on the internet.

The first rod is a Granger "Aristocrat" 9 ft. 3 pc. rod.
all snake guides are about #1 size and are spaced as follows, from the end of
the tip top: 5 11/16, 12 3/16, 19 3/16, 26 5/8, 34 5/8, 38 7/16, 48 1/2, 59
1/16 and the stripper is 79 1/16.

The cork grip is 6 13/16 long with an inside-thread aluminum seat.

These tapers are inclusive of a nice, thin coat of varnish, probably no more
than .003' thickness per side. The first number is the "fore-and-aft"
dimension in line with the casting plane. The second figure is the most
extreme, whether higher or lower. Just for the sake of completeness.

This rod is nicely wrapped with red-tipped gold and no intermediates.

Some of the other rods to which I have access are: a Thomas "Favorite", 7 1/2
ft. 2 pc.; a Farlow (Scotland) 7' 3" 2pc.; a Heddon "Bill Stanley #20" 9 ft.
3 pc.; a Cross "double -built" 7 ft. 2 pc.; a Thomas Dirigo 9 1/2 ft. salmon r
od for 8 wt. line; an 1880 Chas. Orvis 10 ft. 3 pc.; an old rod from Von
Lengerke (sp.?) & Detmold's Chicago, probably by Thomas around 1900, 8 ft. 3
pc. and even a 15 ft. greenheart rod.

If anybody is particularly interested in any of these pieces, let me
know-on-or-off list and I'll give it priority.

Tomorrow I'll transmit the tapers (and some nifty hardware details) for a 13
ft.
E. Gale Spey rod. I swear I don't know how young folks can stare at this
thing for hours at a time. Gives me a thirst like a water buffalo!
